Smaller, lighter, with a wider weight range: SKYLOTEC presents new shock absorber

Inconspicuous, but indispensable as part of the personal protective equipment against falls from a height – these are essential properties of lanyards with integrated shock absorbers. In the event of a fall, they minimise the forces that occur and thus the risk of serious injury. Such lanyards are also part of SKYLOTEC's product range, such as the “Skysafe Pro”. The manufacturer of fall protection systems has now developed this further and presents “Skysafe Pro+”, a new lanyard series with an integrated shock absorber, the size of which has been reduced by 50 % compared to the previous version. In addition, the lanyard is suitable for a weight range of 50 to 150 kilograms.

When working at height, it is compulsory for employees to wear personal protective equipment against falls from a height (PPE). Usually, the equipment includes a safety harness, a carabiner and a lanyard such as a rope or sling, which may have an integrated shock absorber. This appears inconspicuous, but is indispensable for the user. A long webbing is woven into it in such a way that it tears open in the event of a fall, thereby reducing the impact force. Lanyards with integrated shock absorbers are also part of SKYLOTEC's product range. The German manufacturer of fall protection systems has further developed its “Skysafe Pro” shock absorber and is now presenting a series of lanyards with the “Skysafe Pro+”. In the process, the size of the new shock absorber has been reduced by 50 % compared to the previous one. This is a real advantage, because it means that it is lightweight and easy to stow away. As a result, users no longer have to struggle with the problem of potentially getting caught on structures with the shock absorber. Instead, they can concentrate fully on carrying out their work, reliably protected. Additional advantage: The shock absorber is suitable for a weight range of 50 to 150 kilograms.

 Small, light - and versatile

If lanyards without integrated shock absorbers are used for fall protection during work at height, this can have serious consequences for the user. In the event of a fall, impact forces of more than 20 kN can act briefly at a fall height of four metres. This can cause serious injuries to the user. This can also happen if so-called restraint systems are misused with overlong lines – and employees fall as a result. Solutions like the “Skysafe Pro+” can significantly minimise such risks. It counteracts when a careless step by users during work at height leads to a fall. The lanyard works with a shock absorber webbing. This ensures an optimal reduction of the impact force – depending on the weight of the user. The wide weight range of 50 to 150 kilograms has a decisive advantage: it reduces the risk of a user reaching for a lanyard shock absorber that is unsuitable for his weight. It is often forgotten that one's own body weight is not the only decisive factor. If you wear a safety helmet, safety shoes and tools on your body in addition to the PPE, you weigh a little more.

The “Skysafe Pro+” is certified according to EN 355 as a fall arrester device, according to EN 354 as a lanyard and according to EN 795-B as a temporary anchor point. It also meets the requirements of RFU 11.074 for horizontal and inclined use on edges. In addition, the lanyard with integrated shock absorber is versatile. It can be used by workers in the construction industry, metal construction, scaffolding, lift construction, when working on mobile working platforms, roofers and carpenters as part of PPE. SKYLOTEC's innovation can also be used for work at heights on wind turbines and telecommunications masts.
